The Directorate of Technical Education ensures a planned development of Technical Education in the state consistent with the  policies of state and the Nation. The department is committed to provide need based, quality technical education and professional human resources to the industry, business and community.

Following are the functions of Technical Education Department:

IRDT :

  • The Institute of Research Development and Training is the institute of the state for understanding training research and consultancy functions in the technical education.

Board of Technical Education :

  • To affiliate institutions and prescribe courses of study and conduct examinations.
  • To prescribe standards for buildings and equipments of affiliated institutions.
  • To prescribe educational qualifications for admission of students and standards for buildings and equipments to the affiliated institutions.
  • To prescribe the manner of admission of students to affiliated institutions.
  • To conduct and publish results of students' examinations and award diploma certificates to successful candidates.

JEECUP :

Joint Entrance Examination Council Uttar Pradesh (Polytechnic) conducts entrance exam for admission to Diploma courses of Engineering, Technology and Management.The candidates who qualify JEEUP exam will be called to participate in further admission events such as counselling and seat allotment.

There are currently 1416 institutes functioning in U.P., out of which 149 are government, 19 are government-aided, 03 are other department institutes and 1245 are private institutes providing technical education in over 53 branches to more than 2.5 Lacs students.
